          An attorney can help keep you out of jail.
          An attorney can negotiate your fines.
          An attorney can explain the process to you.
          An attorney may have options in which you don’t know exist.
          An attorney will fight for your rights.

Surprises people get in court.
        1. It is my first charge ever, and the judge won’t send me to jail.
                      Not true. I have seen people go to jail even when it was their first charge.

          2. I just have a traffic ticket. I don’t need an attorney.

        4. The officer told me that he was going to drop my charge.
                      It is not up to the officer to drop the charge. After the officer signs the complaint,
                      it is up to the prosecutor to dismiss your charge. Officers sometimes tell people
                      this to get them to cooperate or to calm them down.
